HVARO CASE D#0001
POLICE REPORT
Incident Type: Disappearance
Date of Report: June 24. 1984
Date of Incident: June 23, 1984
Time of Incident: Approximately 1900 hours
Location: Anchorage Cabins, Harbor View, Maine
Reporting Officer: Sheriff J. Murphy
Badge Number: 0417
SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:
On June 24, 1984, at approximately 0700 hours, I, Sheriff J. Murphy, arrived at Anchorage Cabins located in Harbor View, Maine, in response to a report regarding the disappearance of the Masterson family, who were reportedly staying in Cabin 6.
Upon arrival, I was met by the site manager, who escorted me to Cabin 6, the unit occupied by the Masterson family. I entered the cabin alone for the purpose of investigation.
OBSERVATIONS:
-
Interior Condition:
The interior of Cabin 6 appeared undisturbed and was consistent with its pre-rental condition. There were no signs of a struggle or forced entry. -
Manager's Statement:
The site manager indicated that she personally observed the Masterson family entering the cabin the previous evening during a smoke break. However, upon my inspection, there was no indication that the family had occupied the cabin beyond their initial entry. -
Personal Effects:
No personal belongings or effects of the Masterson family were located within the cabin. This includes clothing, luggage, and any other items that would typically be present if the family had stayed overnight. -
Latent Prints:
Latent prints were recovered from the exterior front door of Cabin 6. These prints matched those of an adult male. However, no corresponding prints were detected on any interior surfaces of the cabin, suggesting that the family may not have entered the interior beyond the threshold. -
Neighboring Cabins:
Inquiries were made with the occupants of adjacent cabins (Cabin 5 and Cabin 7, later confirmed to be numbered 6 and 8 in the rental ledger). These individuals reported no noises, disturbances, or any awareness that the Masterson family had arrived or entered Cabin 6. -
Time Stopping:
It was noted that all clocks within Cabin 6 had stopped at 0738 hours. The site manager advised that this condition was present prior to the family’s arrival, which may be of significance in the investigation.
CONCLUSION:
Based on the observations and evidence collected at the scene, it is the opinion of this officer that the Masterson family may not have entered the campground beyond the initial sighting made by the site manager. There were no further indications of forced entry, struggle, or habitation within Cabin 6.
The scene has been cleared pending further investigation, and no additional evidence has been found to suggest the whereabouts of the Masterson family.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
-
Further investigation into the whereabouts of the Masterson family should be conducted.
-
Interviews with the site manager and neighboring cabin occupants should be documented for any inconsistencies or additional information.
-
Review of any surveillance footage in the area, if available, may provide further insights into the family's disappearance.
